  1. Really exciting result for you especially as you have had to start from scratch in your new garden this year. You’ll really ‘knock em dead’ next year!

  2. Good one1
We also found after a bit of sucess at our local show we were raring to go the next year – 3 years in and my other half’s gardening is totally geared towards the show!

  3. Congratulations! I’d be similarly excited!
What fun. I’m planning to move from London next year and can’t wait for village life and events such as this – so very… British somehow.

  4. congratulations – I am no surprised, though I haven’t tasted it, your produce always looks rather good – I loved the local flower shows when I was young – they had baking and flowers but I can’t remember if they had produce

  5. Congratulations! What fine specimens! Will you now eat them or preserve them for posterity?
Your growing season does not seem to be long but you have achieved wonders in such a short time since we saw your proposed vege patch. Has there been much sunshine or is it just the quality of sun and rain?
And your photos of Dublin and surrounds bring back beautiful memories.

  6. Congratulations on your success! Your lovely photos remind me of the episode of River Cottage in which Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall participated in his local fruit and veg show. As I recall he and his neighbours engaged in some pretty canny reconnaissance tactics, hoping to suss out the competition before the actual event. Any such nefarious goings-on in your village?

  7. Good for you!

I was equally impressed with our first ever crop of Charlotte potatoes the other weekend, I was really chuffed too!

    Brilliant ;o)

  8. Lucy – Hee hee. :)

Wendy – Here’s hoping it wasn’t beginners luck!

Jane – I can totally see how that could happen. :)

    Becky – Thanks!

Antonia – It is a bit British, isn’t it? Best of luck with the intended move!

    Aforkfulofspaghetti – :) Thank you!

Johanna – There was baking and preserves in the contest too. Oh to be one of those judges…

    Helen – Thank you!

Siri – Lol! I’d forgotten about that!

    Susan – I am rather pleased. :)

    Heather – Thank you!

Yvonne – The show ones were sold to raise funds for the village hall. The rest we either ate or gave away to friends and family. The growing season is pretty short for a lot of vegetables, I must say. My peas and courgettes have already been pulled up. Thinking about branching out into winter produce this year. Never that keen on gardening in the cold though.

    Pille – Thanks!

Andrea – The only thing I noticed was people peering over the fence at my plot occasionally. Got a rather woofy dog so he’d scare off any saboteurs. ;)

Roo – My potatoes are not impressive at all. Charlottes are my favourites too.

Kathryn – I was very pleased indeed. :)

Kavey – I entered just for fun but was seriously chuffed when I got some placings!
